The MAP sensor is used in sampling devices, such as modified atmosphere pacakging, analysis of welding gases or combustion controllers, where a heater maintains the sensor at 700 deg C.
1. Construction
The MAP sensor consists of a standard ,SIRO2 sensor bonded into a stainless steel head.
The head incorporates two threaded tube connectors for gas in and gas out. Internal gas
flow is via a stainless steel capillary and ceramic tube.
All components in direct contact with the gas stream are stainless steel or alumina ceramic.

3. Electrical
The sensor tip must be heated to a temperature of at least 700 deg C, in air. Position the sensor symmetrically in the hot zone of the heater. Check that the impedance of the sensor is less than 10 kohms and that the air-to-air signal is less than 2 mV.
Pump reference gas into the end connection and remove it from the top connection. The gas flow rate should be in the range 0.1 - 0.3 l/min.
The DC mV signal will then indicate the oxygen concentration, according to the Nernst equation.
